Searching for Jesus in Every Book of the Bible

When someone asks you to find a bible verse that talks about Jesus, you’d probably turn to the New Testament without hesitation. And yes, you would be right. Jesus’ birth, ministry, and resurrection are all recorded in the New Testament.

But if you really think about it, Jesus can be found in every book in the Bible. Yes, you read it right. From Genesis to Revelation, the entire bible is about Jesus. Though not all of them specifically mention Jesus’ name, the scriptures point to Him one way or another.

Here’s how Jesus is portrayed in all 77 books of the bible:

Old Testament

Genesis

The seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15, Genesis 22:17-18)

Exodus

He is the Passover lamb. (Exodus 12:26-27)

Leviticus

The High Priest (Leviticus 16:16)

Numbers

Pillar of cloud and pillar of fire (Numbers 14:14)

Deuteronomy

The prophet like Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15-19)

Joshua

He is the commander of the Lord’s army. (Joshua 5:13-15)

Judges

He is our judge and lawgiver. (Judges 2:18)

Ruth

He is our kinsman redeemer. (In Hebrew, kinsman redeemer is obliged to redeem a relative in serious difficulty.) (Ruth 4:1-4)

1 & 2 Samuel

The trusted prophet of the Lord (1 Samuel 2:10)

1 & 2 Kings

He is our reigning king. (1 Kings 2:1-4)

1 & 2 Chronicles

The glorious temple. (2 Chronicles 7:11-16)

Ezra

The faithful scribe. (Ezra 7:27-28)

Nehemiah

He is the restorer. (Nehemiah 2:17-18)

Tobit

The obedient son of God. (Tobit 1:6-8)

Judith

He is God’s deliverance. (Judith 8:17-27)

Esther

He is our Modecai, our advocate. (Esther 4:11-14)

Job

He is our ever-living redeemer and the mediator between God and man. (Job 19:1-29)

Psalms

He is our shepherd. (Psalm 23)

Proverbs

He is the wisdom of God. (Proverbs 8:22-31)

Ecclesiastes

He is the hope of resurrection. (Ecclessiastes 3:19-21)

Song of Solomon

He is our loving bridegroom. (Song of Solomon 4)

Isaiah

He is the suffering servant. (Isaiah 42:1–4, Isaiah 49:1–6, Isaiah 50:4–7, Isaiah 52:13–53:12)

Jeremiah

He is the righteous wronged. (Jeremiah 12:5-13)

Lamentations and Baruch

He is the weeping Messiah. (Lamentations 3, Baruch 2:14-23)

Ezekiel

He is the son of man. (Ezekiel 2:1)

Daniel

He is the fourth man in the fiery furnace. (Daniel 3:8-25)

Hosea

He is the faithful husband. (Hosea 3)

Joel

He is the outpourer of the holy spirit. (Joel 2:28-32)

Amos

He is the burden-bearer. (Amos 8:9)

Obadiah

He is our judge and mighty savior. (Obadiah 1:21)

Jonah

He is the greatest missionary. (Jonah 3)

Micah

He is the everlasting prophet born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:1-2)

Nahum

He is our stronghold. (Nahum 1:3)

Habakkuk

He is the watchman and the greatest evangelist. (Habakkuk 3:3)

Zephaniah

He is the warrior who saves us. (Zephaniah 3:17)

Haggai

Zechariah

He is the son pierced for our sake. (Zechariah 12:10)

Malachi

He is the son of righteousness. (Malachi 3:1)

Matthew

He is the fullness of God’s promise. (Colossians 1:18)

He is the coming king. (2 Thessalonians 3:16)

He is the mediator and the king of ages. (1 Timothy 1:17, 1 Timothy 2:5)

Titus

He is the foundation of truth and the blessed hope. (Titus 2:13)

Philemon

He is our friend and benefactor. (Philemon 1-21)

Hebrews

He is our perfection, the blood that washes away our sins. (Hebrews 10:4)

James

He is the power behind our faith. (James 2:14-26)

1 & 2 Peter

He is the living stone and the chief shepherd. (1 Peter 2:4, 1 Peter 5:4)

1, 2 & 3 John

He is the source of all truth and eternal life. (1 John1:2)

Jude

He is our savior. (Jude 25)

Revelation

He is the king of kings, lords of lords, and the alpha and the omega. (Revelations 19:16, 1:17, 22:13)
